    DataStax, the leader in data management for cloud applications, is seeking a talented Escalations Engineer to join our DataStax team.
    Job Description:

    We are looking for a talented hybrid engineer with a blend of core, distributed systems operations experience and systems-level Java expertise to join our escalations team. This team works with some of the largest, most complex distributed problems in the world, bridging the gap between support and engineering and serving as the advocate for customers in escalation situations. In this role you will be working in a very high profile role providing workarounds, root-cause analysis, and patches on core database technologies in our flagship product inspired by Apache Cassandra. Past experience with running large-scale distributed systems is required.

    Essential Job Functions:

  • Interface directly with customers on behalf of both support and engineering, serving as the primary point of contact for escalations in production systems and new customer deployments

  • Analyze and troubleshoot live distributed systems, in both development and production environments

  • Deep-dive into a complex, distributed code-base to understand and document defects and UX shortcomings

  • Provide in-depth feedback, suggestions, and potentially work on patches with the Core Engineering team for defects and improvements that come up during customer interactions

  • Analyze, research, and propose new processes for both escalation flow and development in the organization

  • Serve as advocate for users in discussion with engineering about new features and product direction

  • Serve as primary contact point for managed services group to improve software usability

  • Some travel (on-site customer work) is required

Job Requirements:

  • Expert troubleshooting skills with large software deployments and distributed systems

  • Extensive operational experience on Apache Cassandra or DSE in a devops or support role

  • Strong linux environment / os performance and troubleshooting skills

  • Strong Java background in systems or back-end software

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience working in support or escalations scenarios with critical, time sensitive issues

  • Comfortable reading, reviewing, and modifying others' code

The stuff that would be nice to have:

  • Experience with performance profiling and optimization, preferably in a distributed environment

  • Experience working on multithreaded concurrent large-scale distributed systems

  • BS, MS or PhD degree in Computer Science or related major
